Sunday 4 October 2026, on Japanese television

Sunday 4 October 2026is when Japanese television starts the second cour of Baki-Dou. Anime.com, writing on 30 August 2026, says the official account announced that date just after episode 9 of the first cour, titled "Retsu Kaioh," had aired. Netflix had already released the same 12 episodes, numbered 14 to 25, in one batch worldwide on 18 June 2026. The October run is the weekly version of episodes people could already stream.

The swordsman in that arena wears Miyamoto Musashi's name. The historical Musashi was born in 1584 and died on 19 June 1645. He does not live through the centuries in the historical record. Baki-Dou brings a body back and stands it under Tokyo.

What Baki-Dou is

Baki-Dou is the anime of the fourth part of Keisuke Itagaki's Baki manga. That manga ran in Weekly Shonen Champion, from Akita Shoten, from 2014 to 2018. TMS Entertainment produces the anime. Earlier anime seasons include Baki, on Netflix from 2018, and Baki Hanma, in 2021 and 2023. This page leaves their episode plots alone.

Mantanweb's English article of 31 August 2026 says the first cour had been airing on TOKYO MX and other stations since July.

  • First cour: 13 episodes, Netflix from 26 February 2026, Japanese TV from July 2026, Sunday 23:30 on TOKYO MX, BS Nittele, and Sun TV.
  • Second cour: 12 episodes, numbered 14 to 25.
  • Netflix: all 12 at once, worldwide, on 18 June 2026.
  • Japanese television: starts Sunday 4 October 2026. The 30 August post did not repeat the clock time. Sunday 23:30 stays with the first cour.

The plot frame from Mantanweb

After the father-son fight, Baki and the other fighters are bored. A plan to revive Miyamoto Musashi is underway 364 meters underground at Tokyo Skytree. The story is Baki and his allies against Musashi revived by scientific technology.

364 meters is deeper than a commuter basement, and the scene is still a fictional lab. Anime.com and Mantanweb do not describe an archaeological dig or the machinery. The tower is a place you could visit. The lab is a room in the plot.

Ukiyo-e style, and a poster that borrows it

Ukiyo-e are woodblock prints of the Edo period. The printer cuts a black key-line and lays flat color against it. Sheets often show actors, wrestlers, and famous places: a hard outline and flat color.

Anime.com says the 30 August announcement was paired with a key visual of Baki and arena fighters around the resurrected swordsman. English-language anime coverage described an ukiyo-e style image of Baki and Musashi. A modern key visual that borrows that look is a poster, not an Edo print. These sources do not name an artist.

Historical Musashi beside the anime

Read the Miyamoto Musashi article for the life. The sections under the table carry the comparison.

Dates: a life that ends, and a body in Tokyo

Birth in 1584, death on 19 June 1645. That span covers the last of the wars and the early Tokugawa peace, and then the record stops. The man does not keep a household in later centuries.

Baki-Dou uses a cloned or scientifically revived body in present-day Tokyo. Mantanweb's phrase is revival by scientific technology. He does not live through the centuries in the historical record.

Two swords, one kilogram, two hands

Two swords are the real Niten Ichi-ryu idea: a longer katana and a shorter companion, the wakizashi. A real katana in the common range is about 70 cm of blade and a bit over 1 kg. You do not need a fake-precise gram weight. A beginner should remember "one kilogram and two hands."

The short sword is there to cover the space the long sword leaves, not to let him attack twice as hard. In the anime the same idea is drawn at a size and speed no wrist can repeat.

The Book of Five Rings wants plain movement

The Book of Five Rings is a strategy book he wrote late in life. Read it for timing and distance. He also tells you to stop decorating your movement. Extra flourish is time a real exchange does not give you.

The anime needs spectacular movement. Those goals fight each other. You can like a cut you will rewind. The late-life writer is trying to strip habit down, and the revived figure is built to be watched.

Ganryu Island, 1612, is a different fight

Ganryu Island, 1612, Sasaki Kojiro: one famous duel. Follow it on the battles page. The sources argue. They argue over which weapon Kojiro used. They argue over whether Musashi was late on purpose. This page will not invent a duel count. One famous duel is enough to name.

The anime is not that duel. Baki-Dou puts a scientifically revived body under Tokyo Skytree, with modern fighters around him. Ganryu Island is the 1612 fight with Kojiro. The arena is the fight with this cast. Write the year in the sentence.

Arena wins and the strongest-samurai argument

Historical Musashi was a swordsman and a writer who survived duels. He got through those fights and lived long enough to write the book.

The anime puts him in an underground arena against modern fighters, including the kenpo fighter Retsu Kaioh in episode 9 of the first cour. Winning a fictional arena is not a historical rank. The query "strongest samurai in anime" is a fan argument. Do not crown anyone.

Kenjutsu spends its time on the gap

Kenjutsu is sword practice. One concrete difference is enough. Historical practice spends most of its time on how you stand just out of reach. That distance has a name, maai. You adjust a foot before you step in.

Arena animation spends that time on the hit connecting. The gap becomes a wind-up, and the frame people remember is the impact. If those impacts start writing the life, go back to myth and the record.

  1. Write the platform and the date you actually watched: Netflix on 18 June 2026, or television from 4 October 2026.
  2. Put 1584 and 19 June 1645 in a separate sentence from anything that happens under Skytree.

Watch order for a history reader

Three steps if you want a paragraph a teacher can mark.

  1. Step 1: Read the Musashi page first — Open the Miyamoto Musashi article and copy four anchors: born 1584, died 19 June 1645, Ganryu Island in 1612 against Sasaki Kojiro, and Niten Ichi-ryu. A scene that contradicts one of those four is something the anime added.
  2. Step 2: Then get the episode context — Note which release you are watching. Netflix dropped second-cour episodes 14 to 25 together on 18 June 2026. Japanese television starts that cour on Sunday 4 October 2026. Episode 9 of the first cour is titled Retsu Kaioh. The 30 August announcement did not restate a clock time.
  3. Step 3: Write down three additions — After an episode, list three things on screen that a man who died in 1645 cannot include. A revived body under Tokyo Skytree is one. A cut thrown at a size and speed no wrist can repeat is another. You pick the third from the episode in front of you, and you leave duel counts out of it.
